Shark Fights is no EliteXC. For one, the small Texas-based promotion is still in business. Secondly, it understands how to manage the always awkward naked female weigh-in.
EliteXC was caught off guard in 2008 when Gina Carano had trouble making weight. Carano had to strip down. Holding the towel was her father Glen, and Jared Shaw, son of EliteXC promoter Gary Shaw. Peek-gate brought some negative press the way of the younger Shaw.
Thursday at the Shark Fights 14 weigh-in, Karina Damm had to bare all to make the 126-pound limit. The ringcard girls were there to pick up their sister.
Damm battles Tara LaRosa on HDNet (10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT). The highly regarded LaRosa (19-2) had trouble letting her hands go in a loss versus Roxanne Modafferi on the May 2010 Moosin pay-per-view card. She bounced back with a win over Takayo Hashi.
Damm (15-5) had dropped two straight, including a submission loss on a Strikeforce: Challengers card last August.
The main event features two grapplers in UFC veterans Matt Horwich (26-17) and Danillo Villefort (12-3).
