UFC 137 interview: Roy Nelson says ?Cro Cop? still has it
This may be the last hurrah for the legendary Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, but Roy Nelson knows he can't think that entering the Octagon at UFC 137.
"I think he's the same old 'Cro Cop.' If anything, he's probably more dangerous now because he wants to just prove to everybody else (he can still fight), and that's always a crazy thing," Nelson told ESPNRadio1100/98.9 FM in Las Vegas (4:39 mark).
Nelson, 35, respects the 37-year-old Cro Cop.
"Cro Cop's fought some tough guys the last couple fights. He's still the same guy from 2006, 2007 ... a little bit older. If anything, he's probably a little bit wiser, as in technique-wise," said Nelson."
Nelson played it close to the vest when the issue of his weight came up. Following his loss to Frank Mir at UFC 130, lots of folks including his boss Dana White, called for Nelson to slim down a bit. Whether he's done that is anyone's guess. Nelson joked that he's heard a lot of "rumors" about his weight and what happened when he and White met to discuss his future. We'll certainly find out more this week from one side or the other.

The Feeders Sacramento: Saturday, October 22
With Seattle’s Downtown Throwdown a wrap, Snowboy and Lib Tech are prepping for the San Francisco edition--which runs October 29--with their California Feeders stop in Sacramento this weekend.
"Hungry for Winter? Get to The Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento California October 22nd at noon to see amazing snowboard action, next years product, pros like hungry judge Sean Genovese, give aways and a screening of Think Thank's "Ransack Rebellion'. Oh yeah and the winner of the contest goes to The Downtown Throwdown SanFrancisco, boom, boom, double boom."
Overeem calls for first round KO of Lesnar, Mir says ?not so fast my friend?
There was a time Frank Mir disliked Brock Lesnar so much that he admitted his life was completely consumed by the goal of defeating the behemoth, but that doesn't mean the Las Vegas native is beyond being objective when it comes to analyzing a fight.
Alistair Overeem is confident he'll crush Lesnar in their year-end fight. Mir says it won't happen at UFC 141.
"Honestly, I think Brock will win pretty easily ? I think we're going to see the closest thing to a grappler versus striker match you'll see nowadays," Mir told ESPN.com. "Brock is going to cover up; maybe throw one jab. He'll rush Overeem to the cage, reach down for a leg and rip him down? I don't think he's going to get off his back. I'd be very shocked ? I'd applaud Overeem if he got off his back."
Mir has a pretty solid wrestling background and possesses world class jiu-jitsu skills, but he was overwhelmed by Lesnar's size (6-foot-4, 285 pounds) and knowledge/execution of positioning himself on top of a downed opponent at UFC 100.
The 6-5, 253-pound Overeem is a good striker and has added to his grappling game over the years, but is he going to be able to keep Lesnar away?
Overeem also believes it'll be grappler vs. striker, but says the guy who likes standings and banging has the advantage.
"I'm very confident. It's going to be a knockout victory in the first round. He's not going to get out of the first round. It will not come to the second round. He's a strong guy, a very dangerous guy. But, I think I've got what it takes to stop him. And I got what it takes to stop him in the first round," said Overeem (2:05 mark).

?Cro Cop? loses final fight at UFC 137, Nelson uses belly and power to finish him off
LAS VEGAS - Over the last 10 years, Mirko Filipovic put on dozens of tremendous shows for fans of mixed martials, so the ending at UFC 137 was fitting.
The 37-year-old brought it and tried to slug it out with Roy Nelson, but the younger fighter's well-rounded game took over in the second and he scored a TKO win at the 1:30 mark of third at UFC 137.
"Cro Cop" was one of the most feared fighters in the world during his time with PRIDE fighting in Japan. His run with the UFC was less than stellar, but the fans never lost their love for the Crotian kickboxer. Even tonight, the Las Vegas crowd went nuts anytime Cro Cop landed a punch or kick.
"This is going to be my final fight. I didn't make a goodbye victory," a sad Cro Cop told UFC analyst Joe Rogan. "Roy was just better tonight. I want to thank all you guys, especially the UFC fans."
[Related: UFC 137: Penn, 'Cro Cop' set to retire after losses]
Cro Cop (27-10, 4-6 UFC) was very much in the fight into the middle of the second round. Two minutes in, he rocked Nelson with a left and then got off 20-25 unanswered shots. Nelson covered up and survived, enabling him to score a very important takedown with 2:35 left.
Nelson quickly moved to side control where he worked for the dominant crucifix position. Once he got it with less than 45 seconds left, he pounded away on the helpless Cro Cop. Nelson, who came into this fight about 15-17 pounds less than previous fights, still has a good-sized belly. He used that to his advantage as he smothered the 37-year-0ld. Cro Cop survived the round, but when he rose to his feet his face was all marked up.
In the third, the Croatian's legs weren't there and he got drilled by a straight right. Cro Cop went into retreat mode. A little over minute into the round, he got dropped by a left. Nelson jumped on top, got his hooks in and flattened him out. He threw four or five bigbombs to the side of Cro Cop's head and it was stopped.
"It was awesome to fight with a legend. It's good just to be back in the 'W' column.Cro Cop can still tear it up," Nelson said. "My game plan was to strike and mix it up so you see a little bit of everything."

UFC?s ?Super Saturday?card will hit theatres in 3D
Starting with its Feb. 4 card, the UFC is introducing another cool innovation with fight cards shown in 3D in movie theatres around the country. The promotion is partnering with Cinedigm Digital Cinema to bring events to the big screen. There will be four 3D shows per year.
"By partnering with Cinedigm, we're taking the UFC viewing experience to a whole new level. For the first time ever, fight fans can watch a UFC Pay-Per-View card in 3D at theaters across the country. We want UFC fans to have the best viewing experience possible and now they get a chance to experience major UFC Pay-Per-Views in 3D," said UFC president Dana White.
In the past, Cinedigm has produced 3D shows and sporting events like the Foo Fighters, FIFA World Cup, BCS Championship and the Dave Matthews Band.

UFC 137 classic: Diaz beats the heck out of Penn in slugfest, the Hawaiian may retire
LAS VEGAS - Nick Diaz is a hard dude to figure out, but there's no denying the Stockton psycho is a brilliant fighter. Diaz's roll continued at UFC 137 as he battered B.J, Penn over three rounds on his way to a unanimous decision victory, 29-28, 29-27 and 29-28, in the main event at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
Both fighters were extremely emotional. Diaz ran around the cage yelling "Where are you Georges," as he was looking for UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. When he got on the microphone his fiery take continued.
"I don't think Georges is hurt. I think he's scared. Where you at Georges?," Diaz said during his conversation with Joe Rogan.
When the camera in the arena panned to GSP, the champ simply shook his head and put his hands up to act like he was trembling in fear. St. Pierre was originally slated for tonight's card, but had to pull out last week with a knee injury.
When B.J. Penn spoke with Rogan, he was very down saying that this might be it for him. He has another child on the way and said he didn't want to go home in the future looking like this. "This" was a bruised mess. His left eye was almost completely shut.

UFC 137 Weigh-In Results
The two didn't disappoint, with UFC officials having to separate them after things nearly got physical during their staredown.
Diaz weighed in first, coming in at 170 pounds, and Penn followed at 169. That's when the show began. Penn walked up to Diaz, the crown of his head just under Diaz's nose. Diaz then appeared to burrow his head forward, making contact with Penn. The two then shoved each other before being quickly separated.
It was the first and only sign of animosity between the two during fight week in what has been mostly been a quiet, respectful back and forth.
After the push-apart, Diaz immediately walked off the stage and to the back.
"He's a good opponent," Penn said. "It's time to fight."
Diaz is making his return to the UFC after vacating the Strikeforce championship. He's riding a 10-fight win streak, and he has cited Penn as one of his early influences. The two have also worked together in the past, but Friday's actions showed the two won't have a problem putting the past behind them and getting down to fight.
In the co-main event, Matt Mitrione will take a 21-pound advantage into his heavyweight bout with Cheick Kongo. For Mitrione, it is his biggest jump in opponent level after taking out Christian Morecraft in his last bout. Mitrione weighed 255 to Kongo's 234.
In what may be his last bout as a fighter, Mirko Cro Cop weighed in at a trim 235 pounds for his bout with Roy Nelson. In the leadup to the fight, there has been talk about Nelson's new conditioning program and the effects it may have on his body, but he didn't tip his hand at weigh-ins, wearing a fat suit on the scale while registering 252 pounds. By comparison, in his last fight at UFC 130, Nelson weighed 260 pounds.
The only fighter to miss weight was Tyson Griffin, who was well off the mark, checking in at 146, three pounds over the featherweight limit. He had one hour to attempt to lose the three pounds but did not make it, dropping only one pound. He'll be fined a percentage of his purse and face Palaszewski at a catch weight of 148 pounds.
Main Card
Nick Diaz (170) vs. B.J. Penn (169)
Cheick Kongo (234) vs. Matt Mitrione (255)
Mirko Cro Cop (235) vs. Roy Nelson (252)
Hatsu Hioki (145) vs. George Roop (145)
Scott Jorgensen (135) vs. Jeff Curran (134)
Preliminary Card
Donald Cerrone (156) vs. Dennis Siver (155)
Tyson Griffin (148)* vs. Bart Palaszewski (146)
Eliot Marshall (204) vs. Brandon Vera (205)
Danny Downes (155) vs. Ramsey Nijem (155)
Chris Camozzi (185) vs. Francis Carmont (185)
Dustin Jacoby (185) vs. Clifford Starks (186)
*Tyson Griffin made 149 on the scale, dropped another pound after weigh-ins were concluded and ultimately could not make weight, resulting in a fine of 25 percent of his purse. His fight with Palaszewski will be fought at a 148-pound catch weight.

Party on Halloween with Sonnen, Silva expected to dress as a ?duck or chicken?
Chael Sonnen is doing everything he can to get that rematch against Anderson Silva, so he'll be front and center in Las Vegas this weekend around UFC 137. That includes hosting a Halloween party at XS, one of Sin City's hottest clubs.
This comes on the heels of Sonnen hijacking ESPN's MMA Live to further promote his cause. The middleweight contender asked hosts Jon Anik and Kenny Florian what they thought Silva would dress as for Halloween.
"A or B: Will Anderson Silva go as a duck for Halloween or will he dress as a chicken? I'm gonna go B, I think he goes as chicken, he already has the costume," said Sonnen.
He also made an interesting point about Silva's manager Ed Soares.
"Apparently the Ed Soares excuse factory is open for business. A champion doesn't call somebody out. If you're the champion, you get called out. I think it's a little odd and unprecedented that Anderson Silva is now trying to pick a fight," Sonnen said. "He's doing the same thing I am, he's calling out Michael Bisping because it's an easy fight. Well, I want an easy fight too, which is why I'm calling him out, so I get it."

Pat Barry and Mirko ?Cro Cop? singing ?California Dreaming?
This video is worth the 1:05 it will take you to watch. In fact, it's worth the 5:25 it will take you to watch it five times in a row, because you will. You will want to watch UFC fighters and once opponents Pat Barry and Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic sing along to the Mamas and the Papas classic "California Dreaming."
The two fought at UFC 115, but Barry never kept his fandom of Filipovic a secret. That may explain why he's grinning like a jack o'lantern throughout the video. What impressed me most is that Cro Cop knew the verses to the song. Everyone knows the chorus, but the verses? Wow. English is his second language, but he still knew about stopping in the church they passed along the way.

What you need to know from this week on ?The Ultimate Fighter?
Welcome to another installment of "The Ultimate Fighter" season 14 recap. Who wins the prank war? Who wins the fight? Whose car ends up getting towed? Read on for spoilers and a recap.
After the last fight, Diego Brandao started to go slightly insane at Steven Siler. There seemed to be little provocation, but on TUF, there doesn't need to be provocation.
Jason "Mayhem" Miller stopped by the house to hang with his guys, but more importantly, to figure out who the mole is. He found out it was John Dodson, and decided to mess with him a bit. Instead of giving Brandao the fight he so clearly wants, they will give Dustin Neace a bout with Akira Corassani. However, they continues to make it seem like Siler and Brandao will be the fight.
At the Team Bisping practice, Miller's plan works out as Bisping's team discussed that Brandao will have the next fight.
So, do you guys want to read about prank wars? Really? OK. Corassani and Neace's problems started last week when they messed with each other's things, but Neace was especially angry when the special, special hat that Mayhem brought him went missing. He retaliated by taking a bunch of Corassani's food, and throwing it all over the Team Bisping ready room at the training center. This turned into a war of words where Corassani challenged Neace to a fight "in the garden at 7:00. If he's a man, he'll come to the garden!" That's an amazing sentence.
Their jawing continued right until the fight match-ups, where a whole lot of bleeped out language is uttered. It veers from the misogynistic to the homophobic to just plain nonsensical. Fantastic. When Miller finally announces that they are fighting, they butt heads as they face off, then start fighting.
But wait! It turns into a more ridiculous bar fight. As Miller and Bisping try to break up the fight, one of Miller's coaches takes exception to Bisping pushing him, and Miller and Bisping start jawing. When it finally all settles down, Miller points out that Brandao vs. Siler will be the second fight.
Side note before the fights: Two of Bisping's fighters put an "M" for Miller on the handicapped parking spot. Miller then parks in it. That's disappointing, and karma will get you.
Fight one -- Akira Corassani (Team Bisping) vs. Dustin Neace (Team Miller)
Round 1: For two fighters who jawed so much, they spend quite a long time chasing each other around the cage. Finally, Neace tries to throw a back kick, which Corassani caught and used to throw Neace to the ground. After avoiding upkicks, Corassani goes into Neace's guard. Neace holds off Corassani with good grappling, and then grabs him in a leg lock. Team Miller says that Corassani tapped, but Team Bisping denies it. They return to their feet, and Neace ends it with a takedown.
Round 2: Corassani quickly pushes Neace's back into the cage, but does not accomplish much in the clinch. The two stand and trade until Corassani knocks Neace down with one punch. Neace goes to the ground and follows with several punches, but they're ineffective. The fight goes on this way, with Neace holding off Corassani, but Corassani remaining in control, for the rest of the round.
When the final horn sounds, Neace goes to his corner, but Corassani goes over to Neace and dances around, celebrating his (assumed) victory. Neace gets angry and goes after Corassani, but is held back by his coaches. Bisping yells that Miller needs to control his team. Um, Bisping? Remove the plank from your own eye, n'amsayin?
Keith Kizer, the head of the Nevada Athletic Commission, saw enough. He heads into the cage to tell Corassani that if he keeps it up, he will be suspended. Once every is settled down, Corassani's win is announced.
Team Bisping goes to the parking lot to celebrate and watch Miller's car get towed. What did I say about karma?

Alan Belcher will sit in a kennel to save puppies
Coming off a big win at Ultimate Fight Night 25, Alan Belcher could sit back and enjoy the big win, or he could sit inside a dog's kennel in Mississippi to encourage pet adoptions. Belcher has chosen to do that latter. To the press release:
On Friday, October 14, Alan "The Talent" Belcher will be at Humane Society of Southern Mississippi's facility on Hwy 49 to promote pet adoption in conjunction with HSSM's efforts in the ASPCA $100K Challenge. Belcher will be locked inside one of Humane Society's kennels i.e. "the cage" and available for autographs and photo opportunities to adopters starting at 2pm. Belcher will not be released from his kennel until HSSM has completed 50 adoptions (or 8 p.m., whichever comes first.)
The catch is that you can get a picture or autograph with Belcher if you adopt a pet, but that sounds like a win-win. You get to meet Belcher and you get a pet. Plus, adoptions will be discounted on Oct. 14, meaning you can adopt a dog or a cat for less than $20.
Bottom line: Puppies are awesome, and Belcher is awesome for sitting in a kennel to advocate for them. Find out more about the event here.
UPDATED: Read on for more pictures of Belcher, a 17-6 fighter with 8 knockouts or TKOs, become a total softie for his dog.
Thanks to Alan Belcher Kids for the bottom two pictures. If you go get a puppy with Belcher, please send us a picture on Facebook or Twitter.

UFC 136 postfight: ?Rocky? references, baseball bats and the People?s champ
HOUSTON - In the end, the main card at UFC 136 delivered because Frank Edgar and Gray Maynard produced another classic in their third meeting in front of 16,164.
The live gate was $2.23 million. The UFC now holds the marks for the No. 1 and No. 4 all-time gates at the Toyota Center.
The effort in that main event got the UFC's lightweight champ the Knockout of the Night bonus, good for $75,000. Joe Lauzon beat out Chael Sonnen for Submission of the Night, while Fight of the Night went to Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia for their rock'em, sock'em brawl.
- Sonnen certainly deserved the Postfight Interview of the Night bonus. He called out Anderson Silva and asked to fight on the UFC's Super Saturday card in early February of 2012 in Las Vegas. Sonnen said the speech in the Octagon was off the cuff and he got fired up when he saw Silva sitting in the crowd. Dialing up more of the wrestling rhetoric, Sonnen said he was the people's champion and he was willing to give Silva a shot at the linear belt, his belt.
- White said he was highly impressed by Sonnen's victory over Stann. He believes in the theory of ring rust, but Sonnen showed no signs that he'd been away from the Octagon for 14 months.
- White said he wants to make the Silva-Sonnen fight as soon as possible. He wouldn't confirm that the fight would be on Super Bowl weekend, but he did say Brazil was almost an impossibility.
- Both Joe Lauzon and Dana White agreed on Melvin Guillard's performance saying he came into the fight with a lack of focus. Lauzon pointed out that while he sat in his hotel room all day on Saturday, Guillard was hanging out the UFC Fan Expo going down next door at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
- A very disappointed Kenny Florian wouldn't address retirement rumors. He was asked five questions and had little to say.
- Maynard still appeared stunned during the postfight. He couldn't believe Edgar made it through the first round.
"I don' know if he has a button that puts him out. I hit him on a knee, a right ... I think I hit him on a hook. What else? If there was a bat in there I probably would've hit him with that too. I couldn't find one. Where do you keep the bats in the cage?" Maynard jokingly asked White.
- White said he lost his mind cage side when Edgar pulled off the victory. Some may say his mind was still lost when he made an impassioned plea that Edgar is now the No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world during the postfight. White said he always thought the stuff you see in "Rocky" movies was [expletive], but Edgar produced a real-life Rocky fight.
Indeed, it was California dreaming on such a winter's day.
