India jumped into the world of MMA with the start of Super Fight League, a new promotion that debuted in Mumbai over the weekend. James Thompson submitted Bob Sapp at 1:52 because Sapp sustained a leg injury.
The real star of the show was SFL's theme song, which should shoot to the top of the charts immediately. It somehow combines the guitar riffs of an 80s movie montage song with the rapping skill of Snow. Basically, it's amazing.
"Boom, pow, punch kick WOW!" will be playing in your head for the rest of the day. You're welcome.

After months of rumors, the UFC finally confirmed that it will head back to Brazil in June. At Joao Havelange Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silva will rematch with Chael Sonnen for the UFC middleweight belt. After a season of coaching of the first Brazilian "The Ultimate Fighter," Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort will fight. To the press release:
"This will be the biggest sporting event of the year," said UFC president Dana White. "Bigger than the NFL, the NBA, you name it - UFC 147 will be the biggest. The whole world wants to see this fight between Silva and Sonnen. We are broadcast in over 150 countries in 22 languages in half a billion homes. Wherever those fans are, they are going to be watching this fight."
Don't anybody tell White, but this is an Olympic year. One fight card in Brazil will not surpass even the opening ceremony for the Summer Olympics, but it's a nice goal. Joao Havelange holds 46,931 for a soccer match, but presumably, floor seats will help the UFC break its record of 55,000 set at UFC 129 in Toronto.
Regardless of how many people tune in or turn out for the fights, this rematch will be fun. The last time the two fought, Sonnen beat up Silva for 4 1/2 rounds. Three minutes into the final round, Silva used a triangle armbar to submit Sonnen. Since then, animosity between the two has reached epic levels. Sonnen still refuses to admit that he lost to Silva.
Though it's still March, the buildup for this fight should border on insane. Before we get lost in the insanity, how do you see this fight going down? Tell us in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

After a long, five-week break since the first round of the season at Philip Island, World Superbikes is back in Europe. Imola was previously kept until the end of the season, but in 2012, it's been moved forward to the the second round, making it hard to compare the results with previous years, although the unusual warm weather would have thrown the usual estimates into the fiction category anyway. Perennial qualifier Jakub Smrz may well be the top qualifier of the day, but that was a last-gasp dash on the Effenbert Liberty Racing Ducati for the flag that put him at the top of the leader board that was dominated throughout the qualifying session by the big green Kawasakis of Tom Sykes and Joan Lascorz.

One subject has dominated the past three years of MotoGP, and indeed all of motorcycle racing. Despite some thrilling racing, technical innovation and both fascinating and tragic stories, the main topic of conversation among those involved in motorcycle racing has been how to cut costs. A raft of new regulations have been introduced, and even more radical changes are currently under discussion for the next few years.
At the official presentation of Yamaha's 2012 MotoGP campaign, Yamaha Racing Managing Director Lin Jarvis spoke to MotoMatters.com about the need for MotoGP to shift its focus, from just tinkering with the technical regulations to trying to expand its audience base and generate more income, taking advantage of new media and a more international audience to tap into new markets and more potential sponsors. "The technical regulations are very, very important, and bringing costs down is very important," Jarvis told us. "But the other thing is how to increase the popularity of the sport, and increase the revenue. Just saving costs is still shrinking."

"What we should do," the Jose Maroto, the Spanish editor of Motociclismo said to me, "Is organize MotoGP in Ethiopia, or anywhere they are having a drought. It hasn't rained here in Jerez for 70 days, and this is what happens when we arrive." It had happened in Sepang, and it happened at Jerez, the weather was the major protagonist on the second day of testing at the Spanish circuit, with high winds and heavy rain dominating much of the day.
It almost had a remarkable effect. Avintia Racing's Ivan Silva was one of the few riders who went out early in the morning while the track was still dry, and it looked for a long time like the Spaniard would end the day on top of the timesheets, a first for the FTR Kawasaki CRT bike. But the weather cleared up in the last few hours of the test, leaving an almost dry track for the final 30 minutes, and seeing most of the riders go back out to prepare some work for Sunday. In the process, they stole Silva's chance of glory, demoting him to 6th spot at the end of the day.

Welcome to weekend warriors, Cagewriter's rundown of the fights you missed while immersed in March Matness.
Bellator started their middleweight tournament on Friday, and Brian Rogers had the highlight of the night with a flying knee knockout of Vitor Vianna.
The knockout earned Rogers a spot in the middleweight tourney's final four. Maiquel Falcao also punched his ticket to the semifinals with a stand-up filled decision over Norman Paraisy. Vyacheslav Vasilevsky also took a decision, coming on strong in the second and third with ground attacks to convince the judges. Bruno Santos avoided the submission expertise of "The Arm Collector," Giva Santana, for another decision win.
Vick rolls and Chiesa learns sad news on "The Ultimate Fighter"
After last week's preliminary fights, "The Ultimate Fighter" returned to its one fight a week format. Coaches Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz chose the teams they'll guide for the rest of the season. The teams are:
Cruz's choices (in order): Justin Lawrence (4-0), Villa Ridge, Mo.; Sam Sicilia (11-0), Spokane Valley, Wash.; Myles Jury (10-0), San Diego, Calif.; Mike Rio (9-1), Miami, Fla., Vick; Vinc Pichel (8-0), Sherman Oaks, Calif.; Chris Tickle (8-4), Bloomington, Ill.; and Jeremy Larsen (9-2), Phoenix, Ariz.
Faber's choices (in order): Al Iaquinta (6-1-1), Wantagh, N.Y.; Cristiano Marcello (13-3), Curitiba, Brazil; Cruickshank; Joe Proctor (8-1), Pembroke, Mass.; Michael Chiesa (8-0), Spokane Valley, Wash., John Cofer (8-1), Hull, Ga.; Andy Ogle (9-1), Tynemouth, England; and Chris Saunders (10-2), Long Beach, Calif.
After Faber announced the fight pick of Cruickshank vs. Vick, Chiesa was pulled out of practice to take a phone all from his mother to find out his father, who had been suffering from cancer, had passed away. A shaken Chiesa said he wanted to stay because his father would have wanted him to.
"He made me promise that I wouldn't leave," Chiesa said.
Chiesa went home for a few days, but returned in time to see Friday night's fight.
Daron Cruickshank (Team Faber) vs. James Vick (Team Cruz)
After the two felt each other out, Cruickshank lowered himself for a takedown. Unfortunately for him, Vick's knee was waiting there. Vick knocked Cruickshank out cold with a knee at 2:16 in the first, giving Team Cruz the first win of the season.
Next week, Marcello and Lawrence will face off.

While Georges St. Pierre is sidelined by a knee injury and Kenny Florian is retired after a back injury, the competitive spirit in each fighter has not died. They still feel the need to fight, even when it's just a thumb war.
Update: If the video didn't work for you last time, try again. It's been replaced.
As a thumb war aficionado, I feel the need to point out that Florian cheated. He pulled away from GSP's hand to apply the finishing move.

HAMMOND, Ind. -- Bellator's season six started with a new champ, a terrible stoppage, and four featherweights getting closer to challenging for the belt.
Joe Warren started with a nasty takedown, and from the start, his wrestling controlled most of the bout. Curran's one big moment in the first round came when he knocked Warren down with a head kick, and followed it up with several strikes on the ground, but Warren survived. When Curran tried a flying knee, Warren used it for a takedown. Warren had more takedowns and control in the first round. Action slowed in the second round, as Warren was able to get takedowns, but not hold Curran down.
After Curran's corner told him he was down two rounds, he came out in the third round with full intent to end the fight. Curran's bevy of strikes put Warren against the fence. The fence was the only thing holding Warren up as he withstood several shots from Curran. The fight went on much longer than it needed to, and was finally stopped at 1:25 in the third round.
Warren went to the hospital after the bout. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said he was complaining of nausea and also had a hand injury. Rebney also said he was surprised the stoppage wasn't sooner.
"Watching it live and again on tape, yeah, it could have been stopped earlier," Rebney said.
Curran agreed.
"I knew I had him hurt. I could see in it in his eyes. They could have stopped it a little sooner."
Warren's last fight was a quick knockout, which caused Curran to think Warren couldn't survive many strikes. Though Curran won, he was impressed with Warren's chin.
"I was impressed with his chin and his heart. I thought he was going to have a glass jaw after that."
In earlier action in the featherweight tournament, Daniel Straus and Jeremy Spoon had a back and forth battle that went the full three rounds. Straus showed good takedown defense on his way to a 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 decision win.
Hometown fighter Mike Corey stole the first round with a strong last thirty seconds, taking down Ronnie Mann and throwing several punches. Mann was saved by the bell. That turned the momentum in Corey's favor for the rest of the fight, as he used ground and pound to brutalize Mann on the way to a three-round decision win, 29-28 on all three judges' cards. Corey had taken the fight on short notice after Wagnney Fabiano was injured.
Marlon Sandro moved on n the featherweight tournament by landing punch combos and knees, then choking out Roberto Vargas at 3:35 in the first round. Afterwards, he celebrated by donning the centurion helmet and shield shown in Bellator's logo.
Alexandre "PoPo" Bezerra punched his ticket to the featherweight semifinals by making choking out Kenny Foster in the first round. After battering Foster for much of the round, Bezerra applied a rear naked choke with less than 10 seconds left in the round. Foster tapped as soon as it was applied, giving Bezerra the win at 4:57.
After the fights, Rebney announced the semifinals will pit Sandro vs. Bezerra and Straus vs. Corey.
