Claudio Corti has ended the final three-day Moto2 test of the 2012 preseason on top of the pile, setting the fastest time on Wednesday, and just edging ahead of Thomas Luthi. Pol Espargaro was 3rd fastest, under two tenths slower than Luthi, and about the same ahead of Marc VDS Racing's Mika Kallio, while Marc Marquez ended the test in 5th.
Conditions were ideal for the final day of the test, with the wind that had plagued the riders on Tuesday gone, though that did not prevent the riders from falling. Randy Krummenacher, Takaaki Nakagami, Gresini teammate Ratthapark Wilairot and Gino Rea, and Tech 3's Bradley Smith all hit the tarmac, with Smith's crash sufficient to bring out the red flags.
The improved conditions also meant that most riders set their best time on the final day of the test. Scott Redding was the only rider in the top 10 incapable of improving on his time on Wednesday, though his time from Tuesday was good enough to put him 7th overall. But the pace was positively blistering: Corti's time of 1:41.983 is nearly three quarters of a second faster than the pole record held by Stefan Bradl from last year.
The riders now pack up and head off to Qatar for the season opener on April 8th.
