Alex De Angelis has topped the timesheets in a tensely-fought first session of free practice for the Moto2 class at the Sachsenring, taking over the top spot in the final moments of the session. The lead swapped several times, with De Angelis just beating out Simone Corsi at the end. Bradley Smith ended the session in 3rd spot, just ahead of local hero Stefan Bradl and Marc VDS Racing's Scott Redding. In 6th spot was Julian Simon, freshly returned to racing after shattering his leg at Barcelona just 6 weeks ago, the Mapfre Aspar rider even leading the session at one point.
