On the eve of the year’s biggest fight UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen is still completely focused on the task at hand – beating champion Anderson Silva at UFC 148 and backing up the overwhelming amount of trash-talk he’s offered leading up to the scrap. However, just because Sonnen has verbally berated Silva on countless occasions doesn’t mean he actually hates the Brazilian icon.
“Hate’s too strong of a word,” explained Sonnen in an interview with MMAJunkie. “I want to beat Anderson up. I’m going to beat Anderson up. He’s a phony, he’s a fraud and he’s got what I want. But I don’t wish him a bad life.”
In fact, Sonnen is even willing to be a sportsman after the fight despite all the bad blood between the two. While he may not necessarily have a great deal of respect for Silva as a person, he does revere the lessons he learned early on in life.
“I will always shake hands, win or lose, after a competition. Since I was 9 years old, that’s always been the rule,” said Sonnen, following up on a statement making it clear he wouldn’t be touching gloves beforehand.
Fans can catch their epic outing tomorrow night on PPV starting at 10:00 PM EST with prelims on FX/Facebook in the hours leading up to the show.
