Brian Stann-Michael Bisping, Demetrious Johnson-Joseph Benavidez headed for showdowns at UFC 152

Michael Bisping and Brian Stann will both return from injury for a bout at UFC 152 in Toronto, after the middleweights each expressed interest in an eventual fight. UFC also announced last night that the very first flyweight title fight between 125-pound tournament finalists Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez will co-headline the event.

Stann comes off a knockout win over Alessio Sakara in April, and Bisping was last seen losing controversially to Chael Sonnen in January. Bisping’s original UFC 152 preference was for a rematch against Sonnen for the middleweight title, but that didn’t pan out thanks to Anderson Silva, who stopped Sonnen in the second round at UFC 148.

Johnson earned the right to the flyweight title fight by defeating Ian McCall in an impressive unanimous decision in June, in a rematch after the two fought to an official draw that would have gone to a “sudden victory” period had the judges not flubbed the math and erroneously called it for Johnson. Benavidez, on the other hand, made very quick work of Yasuhiro Urushitani in his semifinal match on FX, earning Knockout of the Night honors in the process.

Already confirmed for UFC 152 is a big welterweight bout between newly unretired legend BJ Penn and rapidly rising star (and Georges St. Pierre teammate) Rory MacDonald, as well as one between featherweights Jimy Hettes and Marcus Brimage.
