Chris Weidman taking on Tim Boetsch at UFC 155

When UFC middleweight Chris Weidman finished Mark Munoz in July he thought he’d done enough to earn a crack at the middleweight champion (and pound-for-pound best fighter in the world) Anderson Silva. However, all of the campaigning Weidman did seemed to have fallen on deaf ears as the UFC has announced he will be fighting Tim Boetsch at UFC 155.

The 16-4 Boetsch is riding a four-fight winning streak since dropping down from the light heavyweight division including victories over Hector Lombard and Yushin Okami. Comparably, Weidman is 9-0 with five instances of success coming inside the Octagon.

According to MMAWeekly, the undefeated Weidman didn’t feel like waiting around for Silva to make his next move, explaining, “I think I’m the number-one contender in the division, but with Anderson not fighting for the rest of 2012, I want to stay busy and keep getting better. I think I’m the best middleweight in the world and I’m going to prove it against another top contender.”

UFC 155 is scheduled for December 29 and is already set to feature a number of noteworthy match-ups including Gray Maynard-Joe Lauzon, Chael Sonnen-Forrest Griffin, and Junior dos Santos-Cain Velasquez.
