CSAC turns heads with mishandling of information surrounding Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman drug tests

The California State Athletic Commission has created some confusion surrounding the lab results from Strikeforce‘s August 18 card after sending an email to members of the media saying the results for the event’s drug screening were deemed invalid, then followed up with another email saying there would be no further comment or explanation.

CSAC Interim Executive Officer Kathi Burns has since done some damage control, and saying the situation was all a misunderstanding.

“The information provided…is erroneous,” wrote Burns in an email to MMAJunkie. “The results of the drug testing for the August 18, 2012 Strikeforce event will be provided later this week or early next week. I spoke with the lab just a few moments ago and found that a delay in processing the results has occurred due to a simple, but correctable clerical error. I apologize for the confusion.”

The story also took a strange turn when the UFC VP of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner told MMAFighting there “was something wrong with the collection method but the fighters in good conscience gave their specimens.”

It is not known if every fighter on the Strikeforce lineup was asked to submit samples though it is logical to assume main event combatants Ronda Rousey and Sarah Kaufman were tested.
