Former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar is heading to the Featherweight division. The news was first reported on Tuesday night’s episode of UFC Tonight on FUEL TV.

Edgar (14-3-1) is coming off a controversial loss at UFC 150 against UFC Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson. This was his second loss on the bounce after losing another tight decision to Ben Henderson back at UFC 144 in Japan. Following the loss at UFC 144 UFC President Dana White wanted Edgar to make the move to featherweight offering him and immediate title shot however Edgar was successful in negotiating another shot at the lightweight belt.

Edgar stated he is willing to fight anyone in the division and will take whoever the UFC matches him with. At the UFC 150 post-fight press conference Dana White announced that Edgar would have to win at least once in the division before receiving a title shot.

The current UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo is set defend his title against Erik Koch at UFC 153 on Oct. 13. However he recently commented on Edgar and stated he would welcome the former champion so he could then send him packing back to lightweight or to the bantamweight division.
