Julie Kedzie, Ovince St. Preux top list of Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman medical suspensions

Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman medical suspensions have been released by the California State Athletic Commission. Looking at the longest potential breaks from action are Ovince St. Preux and Julie Kedzie who received 180 days each, though both can also return sooner than expected with approval from a licensed physician.

St. Preux fought T.J. Cook for two full rounds before knocking him out cold twenty seconds into the third frame. During the bout OSP apparently injured his thumb and will have to get it cleared by a physician if hoping to return before early 2013. Cook was also suspended 45 days, standard in California for fighters who have been knocked out, though he was also suspended indefinitely for a possible neck fracture. He too will obviously require a doctor’s green-light to fight in the near future.

In what many rightfully called the fight of the night, Kedzie and Miesha Tate turned in a back and forth affair though each paid the price in terms of health-related fallout. In the third round of their tilt, Kedzie landed a head kick that seemed to daze Tate, but before time expired Tate scrambled and was able to Armbar Kedzie, forcing the tap. Kedzie’s 180-day suspension was listed as being for a possible rotator cuff injury on her left shoulder given the torque involved in Tate’s Armbar, while the newly-dubbed “Cupcake” Tate was given a thirty day break because of the brutal nature of the bout.

Below is the full list of medical suspensions by the CSAC:

Derek Brunson: Suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days (Precautionary Reasons / Knockout)
Miesha Tate: Suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days (Precautionary Reasons)
